ETNOGRAFIA NO QUILOMBO NOGUEIRA: HISTÓRIA DE LUTA E RESISTÊNCIA DE UM QUILOMBO URBANO EM MONTES CLAROS (MG)

Abstract

Abstract: Quilombos were places where enslaved people settled in a territory to start their lives, take care of their families, plant, harvest, practice their beliefs and customs. Over the course of Brazil's history, it became a sign of struggle and resistance, as they also became targets of persecution or greed by those who wanted to take over or appropriate the space of these groups. It was no different with Quilombo Nogueira, a quilombo, in the city of Montes Claros, which today is already part of the urban area, due to the growth and urbanization of the city. This work tells of the experience, even brief contact with this group, which, like other quilombos, has a history marked by work, struggle and resistance to remain in the place, raise their families, practice their beliefs. Ethnographic work allows an “inside and close look” at this reality, so full of prejudices, but which, like any other people, have the right to recognition, housing, sustenance and free exercise of their practices.
