Abstract

The currently, there is a great diversity in thought and practice of geography, despite attempts of unification paradigm in recent decades. It is known that, in geography, there are no closed systems and is false to say that the idea is a systemic positivist idea. It’s not a totalitarian idea geography has an interdisciplinary character and holistic, opposite to excessive specialization. In this sense, the present study has as its theme “the need of the epistemological union physical geography-human geography”, and aims to reflect on the importance of this epistemological unification to geographical science save your identity, your unit and can contribute with more complete and efficient analysis on relations of society with nature and on the serious environmental problems. The methodological approach has opted analytic-synthetic study based on the contents of the subject Geographic Evolution of Thought, given during the Postgraduate course in Geography - Treatment of Spatial Information – DINTER, held at State University of Montes Claros - Unimontes, in the city of Montes Claros-MG, in 2012, in addition to conducting additional readings of authors who discuss and write about the topic.
