History of course of Geography in the North Mining Brief of Higher Education – FUNM, in Montes Claros (MG)

Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the history of the Course of Geography, Northern Mining the Foundation of Higher Education - FUNM, and their contribution to the development of the city of Montes Claros / MG. With the implementation of the Northeast Development Superintendency - SUDENE (1959) and the urbanization process accelerated in the 1960s, the city of Montes Claros located in the North of Minas Gerais has experienced a rapid population
growth and uncontrolled, requiring new investment in some sectors, among them education. Thus, the creation of FUNM and the Course of Geography, contributed to the development of the city of Montes Claros (MG), aiming to train teachers to work in teaching 1st and 2nd Degrees in public schools and private, in the region. The methodology used in this study is based on principles of historical research by analyzing the content of the following sources:
legislation, minutes of the ongoing deployment of Geography, FUNM, newspapers, curriculum structure and course of the interview with the Course of Geography graduates of the 1960s/1970. Will be addressed mainly the academic’s own State University of Montes Claros, in order to substantiate the theoretical study. The results found in partial fulfillment of this research indicates that the creation of a historical geography course in Montes Claros is important and confirms that it is a dynamic and Degree focused on local and regional realities. This article presents partial results of an ongoing study funded by FAPEMIG.
