The relevant industrial agglomerations and the conditions of industrial agglomeration in Brazil

Abstract

The present work intends to continue the discussion on the dynamics of formation of industrial agglomerations that are territorial concentrations of industry and industrial employment. We seek this based on the concept of Relevant Industrial Agglomerations AIRs, which in this work is defined by the occurrence in a micro-region of at least 100 local units and at least 10,000 jobs in the industry. We also seek to relate the AIRs to the general conditions of production, identifying the need for regional and industrial policies geared not only to foster de-concentration but also to enable new industrial agglomerations. Among the contributions of the present work are the observation of the great concentration of AIRs in the Southeast and in the State of São Paulo and in general, in a polygon of concentration of AIRs that encompasses the States of São Paulo, part of the State of Rio de January beyond the states of the South region.
