Abstract

This article presents comments on statements made in the article "Towards a history of national accounts in Brazil" authored by Dr. Luiz Eduardo Simões de Souza and published in the Revista Economia e Políticas Públicas V.9, n.2 of 2021. And it presents, in full, the implementation of the systems of national accounts in Brazil from its first edition by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation to the current version compiled and disseminated by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics.

Author Biographies

Roberto Luis Olinto Ramos, Getúlio Vargas Foundation

PhD in Production Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1997). President of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) from 2017 to 2019, after having served as Director of Research, Head of the National Accounts Coordination, Manager of Methodology and Methods, and Manager of National and Quarterly Accounts, with a career spanning over 40 years at the institute. Currently a consultant for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on national accounts for short-term missions since 2002, and an associate researcher at the Brazilian Institute of Economics - FGV/RJ.

Claudio Monteiro Considera, Getúlio Vargas Foundation

Graduated in Economics from the Federal Fluminense University (1970), Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Brasília (1975), attended the doctoral program in Economics at the University of Oxford (1975-1982, without a thesis). He earned his PhD in Economics from the Federal Fluminense University in 2009. He is currently an associate professor at the Federal Fluminense University. He was the Head of the National Accounts Department at IBGE (1986/1992), Director of Research at IPEA (1994/1998), and Secretary for Economic Monitoring at the Ministry of Finance (1999/2002). He was also the Head of the Department of Economics and Director of the School of Economics at the Federal Fluminense University. He served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Economic Research and Planning and the Economic Literature of IPEA/Ministry of Planning.
