Um olhar sobre a hierarquia das quatro operações aritméticas nas expressões numéricas

Abstract

This article is a clipping of master’s dissertation that had as main objective to find a justification for the hierarchy of the four mathematical operations in the numerical expressions. During the research, we have found authors who commented that numerical expressions is a content that it is still present in school everyday and in school textbooks. However, official documents, such as the National Curricula Parameters (NCP), do not bring numerical expressions any more. To support the dissertation research, we verified how in fact this content is presented in official documents such as the NCP and the matrix of mathematical reference – SAEB/Prova Brasil, as well as in some school textbooks used in the schools where we work. Since we have found no explanation for the hierarchy of the four mathematical operations in the numerical expressions, we present a proposition of justification for this hierarchy. However, before that, we present a brief history of the content.
