Abstract

The present work aims to present a part of the legacy of Darcy Ribeiro due to being the
centenary of his life. Anthropologist, politician and intellectual, Darcy, a man concerned with social
issues - such as quality and equal education for all to educate children and adolescents - was a boy of
Geraes and became a great man in the Brazilian social and political scene . He broke boundaries and
became a citizen of the world, not only for his achievements in education, but also in the struggle for
social inclusion, cultural diversity, as well as concern for native peoples in Brazilian political and
social formation. But it was in the area of education that he emerged, as he was convinced of the
democratization of education in the country and Darcy believed that education was the driving force
for the development of Brazil. Thus, he was the creator of educational reforms such as the Law of
Guidelines and Base of National Education (LDB) that is in force until the present moment in Brazil.
In addition, Darcy created projects under the influence of Anísio Teixeira for this minority excluded
from society - children and adolescents in the vulnerable zone - such as the CIEPs in Rio de Janeiro
during the government of Leonel Brizola. Thus, this work will address this facet of Darcy Ribeiro.
