The objective of this article is to explain from the Husserlians X and XI the function of
primal impression in the phenomenology of Edmund Husserl. We note that in his initial work on phenomenological temporality, Hua X, entitled Lessons for a Phenomenology of the Internal
Consciousness of Time (Zur Phänomenologie des inneren Zeitbewusstseins), Husserl establishes that
primal impression is the immediate perceptual awareness of the current phase in experience, that is, it
is where the phase is now intended. However, primal impression is also presented in Hua XI, Analyses
on passive synthesis (Analysen zur passiven Synthesis) as the “source point” [Quellpunkt] and at the
same time a “primal source” [Urquelle] of experience. In this context, primal impression inaugurates
the possibility of renewing the life of the conscious. However, it is necessary to highlight the
phenomenological importance of both passive genesis and original associations for the impressional
phase os experiences.
