COMMUNITY BANK AS A LOCAL SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLATAFORM - THE JARDIM BOTÂNICO COMMUNITY BANK CASE

Abstract

The concept of development has always been related to economic growth, attached with
the idea of progress. Generally, the politics of development assumed a exogenous
nature, especially those directed to regional and local development. In these cases,
organizations and other associative forms existing in the territories are both disregarded
which ends up generating new forms of inequality.The incorporation of the concept of
sustainability to the with the issue of development places us before the social, human,
territorial and enviromental dimensions. This project will discuss the concept of
territorial development from the strategy of Banco Comunitário de Desenvolvimento (BCD), field expression of the solidary economy and comunitary organizational practice
of mutual support and incentive to local development. The study is directed to the
experiences of the community São Rafael in João Pessoa/PB with the Banco
Comunitário de Desenvolvimento Jardim Botânico (BCDJB) and use of the social coin
Orquídea, analysing the build of the development from the actions and instruments of
BDC in impoverished communities through the local economy, generating new
socioeconomic interactions and the construction of a new reality. This is a study
conducted concurrently with the implementation process of the experience at hand,
aiming to contribute to the understanding of community banks in the country.
