The present paper presents reflexions on a research process made with the colaboration
of two quilombola communities of the Jalapão region (Central Brazil), Prata and
Mumbuca. Both are golden grass handifraft artisan communities, a traditional technic
where golden grass scapes ares swen with buriti palm fibers. Even though the inicial
goal was the association of scientific and local knowledge, the research process brought
about paths to exercise knowledge dialogue between both perspectives. Hence, the
artisans perceptions were suveyed through qualitative research instruments, apllied with
the communities’s collaboration and participation. Among the data, quests about the
species emerged. These were associated with the current scientific knowledge on the
species and, also, inspired new projects on the species biology. At the end of the project,
considering that the artisans shared their pesrpectives on the species, we brought them
buriti palm and golden grass slades on the microscope, so they could observe the plants
on our perspective. Finally, we experienced the development of a field methodology
aligned with dialogic processes between local and scientific perspectives on nature.
