Abstract

The aim of this paper was to research the history of inclusive education policy, with
emphasis on the historical path of Brazilian legislation, since the imperial period to the
present decades, passing by the legislation in global level. This article was the result of
a literature review, available in books, websites, journals and legislation, seeking a
better understanding of the topic in question. The discussions presented allowed a
holistic view regarding inclusive education policies in Brazil and practices exercised in
this country, enabling the analysis of advances and weaknesses that still need to be
overcome for the full exercise of an effective practice of inclusion.
