ACTIVIDAD FÍSICA COMO MEDIO DE PREVENCIÓN DE LA SARCOPENIA: UNA REVISIÓN SISTEMÁTICA

Resumen

La sarcopenia es un trastorno progresivo y degenerativo del músculo esquelético. En la sarcopenia hay baja masa muscular y baja fuerza muscular, lo que se traduce en pérdida de funciones diarias y mayor riesgo de caídas. Prevenir la aparición de esta afección es fundamental para garantizar una mayor calidad de vida a las personas mayores. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la relevancia del ejercicio físico como medio para prevenir la sarcopenia. Esta es una revisión sistemática realizada de acuerdo con las directrices de la Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review Protocols (PRISMA), buscando responder: ¿cuál es la relevancia de la actividad física para la prevención y control de la sarcopenia y cuáles son sus indicaciones? La práctica del entrenamiento de resistencia, asociado al entrenamiento aeróbico, es necesaria para prevenir la sarcopenia en la población. La revisión destaca la necesidad de estrategias de intervención efectivas incluso en los jóvenes, con el objetivo de mejorar la calidad de vida a largo plazo y mitigar el desarrollo de sarcopenia. Existe la necesidad de individualizar las recomendaciones de ejercicio físico, especialmente en relación con diferentes géneros o condiciones asociadas de los individuos, como la obesidad. Además, la prevención de la sarcopenia está alineada con la prevención de otras afecciones degenerativas del proceso de envejecimiento, como la osteoporosis.
