Objective: to evaluate the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients in the late postoperative period of prostatectomy and the factors associated with possible changes in urinary, bowel, sexual and hormonal patterns.
Method: this is a cross-sectional observational study with a quantitative approach. An instrument for sociodemographic and clinical characterization and the Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite (EPIC) questionnaire were used. He used the Mann-Whitney rank test and Pearson and Spearman correlations. A significance level of α=0.05 was considered.
Results: 70 patients participated in the study, with a mean age of 67 years, with no family history of prostate cancer, married, white, retired. 11.4% reported very problematic for urinary function; 4.3% moderately problematic for bowel habits and 47.1% very problematic for sexual function.
Conclusion: the greatest impact on the HRQoL of the prostatectomy patient was sexual function. Assessing HRQoL is important to verify the results obtained from the available treatments.
