The article presented here deals with expansive poverty as a phenomenon resulting from the process of the rise and consolidation of capitalism embodied by the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, a period characterized by modernization and the structural alteration of social relations of production with the erosion of feudalism, as a historical process and social. It is known that poverty is not exclusive to this mode of production, but it is also known that it acquires new determinations and reaches an unprecedented degree and scope in the European scenario from this historical period. Chaos ensues in industrial cities, born around large factories, and denounces the disturbing effects of this expansive potential of productive forces under the command of capital, a contradiction brilliantly explored by Marx. The bibliographic review demonstrates that the era of capital, dynamizing modernity within society, elevated the bourgeoisie to the condition of dominated class and imprisoned the working class in a condition of poverty and exploitation never experienced before and that is perpetuated in history.
