Abstract

Coronary restoration is closely linked to the success and good prognosis of endodontic treatment, since the microleakage of microorganisms from the oral cavity through the filled root canals can reach the periapical tissues causing infections. Even though the root canals are filled in ideal conditions, microleakage will be present if there is no coronal seal. Objective: To present different studies and conclusions regarding endodontic infiltration, seeking to answer the following question: What is the impact of the absence of a coronal seal on coronary infiltration in endodontically treated teeth? Method: An integrative literature review was carried out following the steps recommended by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) using the following descriptors: Root canal filling, dental restoration failure and dental infiltration, which were used for searches of scientific articles between 2015 and 2020 through the Virtual Health Library (BVS) platform. Results: Six studies were identified that comprised the sample of this review, organized and tabulated for data extraction according to relevant information for the solution of the guiding question. Conclusion: Adequate and quality restorative treatment is essential, both with temporary and permanent materials, so that they can provide longevity to endodontic treatments.
