Objective: to verify the sedentary behavior before and during the COVID-19 pandemic among teachers of basic education in Minas Gerais state. Methods: Epidemiological survey of the type websurveys conducted with teachers of basic education in public schools in Minas Gerais. The collection took place from August to September 2020, and included sociodemographic and economic characteristics, and sedentary behavior of teachers, evaluated by the time spent in front of computer/tablet and television per day. In data analyses, prevalence, averages and confidence intervals was estimated and T-test was performed. Results: 15.641 teachers participated in this study. Between them, 81,9% were women, 36,7% aged from 40-49 years and 59,5% with a family income of three to five minimum wages. The mean time of using computer/tablet was almost eight hours per day during the pandemic, representing a significant increase in relation to the time of use before the pandemic (p=0,000). As for the time related to television use, was observed a significant increase of approximately one hour more in the average time per day comparing before and during pandemic (p=0,0000). Conclusion: the results showed an increase in sedentary behavior of public school teachers, evidenced by the longest screen time.
