EVIDÊNCIAS CIENTÍFICAS SOBRE A IMPORTÂNCIA DO LETRAMENTO EM SAÚDE NA OBTENÇÃO DO CONSENTIMENTO INFORMADO
Scientific evidence on the importance of health literacy in obtaining informed consent

Objective: To analyze the scientific evidence in order to identify whether health literacy is important in the process of obtaining informed consent in scientific research. Methods: This is a narrative review of the literature, with a descriptive analysis of the data. The bibliographic survey was carried out in July 2022, at PubMed database, using the search strategy “Health Literacy” AND “Informed Consent”. Publications from the last 10 years in English, Spanish and Portuguese were considered. Results: 676 publications were retrieved and, after three selection stages, six studies were included, published in English, in international journals, with a predominance of intervention studies. The six studies included were published in international journals, in English, between 2013 and 2018. Regarding the study design, intervention studies predominated, followed by observational studies. All publications addressed interventions that consider literacy in informed consent. Final Considerations: Scientific evidence points to the importance of health literacy in favoring the potential participant's understanding of the research, as well as the procedures inherent to it. Finally, it is suggested that health literacy supports the process of obtaining critical and conscious informed consent in scientific research.
