Cartografia Escolar no Ensino Fundamental II: um breve relato de experiência

Maps allow us to have spatial domain and to synthesize phenomena that occur in geographic space. From a Basic Education perspective, School Cartography is much discussed at BNCC (Common National Curriculum Base), in which the sixth grade of Elementary School is the year that needs to address themes such as localization, orientation and displacements in geographic space in a more emphatic way, as to develop the students’ skills and abilities within this subject. Therefore, the present work aims to report an experience utilizing maps with sixth graders pupils in a public school in the city of Fortaleza. To do so, different maps were used, such as a planisphere, a map of Brazil, a map of the Northeast region of said country, as well as a map of the city of Fortaleza. Such practice has demonstrated to be quite satisfactory, for there was continuous engagement and interest of the students during classes, mainly regarding Fortaleza’s map, which was probably, due to the fact that city holds several geographic places actually experienced by the students.
