O espaço livre público na cidade contemporânea: análise da qualidade da Lagoa Interlagos na cidade de Montes Claros – MG

Abstract

Public open spaces are, par excellence, the place of social practices that bring cities to life. Under the influence of modernity, urban planning proposals turned to rationalist practices that forgot the human scale to the detriment of automobiles and economic relations. This is a question that arises in favor of public spaces that are more humanized and consistent with the reality of their users. Therefore, they must have structural conditions so that people can enjoy the benefits they have to offer. In this sense, this article aims to analyze the quality of public free space in the city of Montes Claros - MG, with the Interlagos lagoon as the object of study. The lagoon was analyzed under the indicators of accessibility / mobility, protection, comfort, pleasantness and diversity of uses. The results demonstrate that the lack of effective public policies for the location results in poor quality of the space, not meeting the needs of its users. It is concluded that the public free public space is vital for the urban constitution and the life of contemporary cities.
